Special seminar
Dear all,
You are all invited to a special seminar by Prof. Karla Kaun, Robert J. and Nancy D. Carney Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Brown University, and a close friend of mine who will visit BIU and present a seminar on December 6th, at 10:00 Nano building floor 9th (refreshments will be served at 9:45).
She will present recent studies from her lab, including one that was just published in Neuron.
Seminar title: TO DRINK OR NOT(CH) TO DRINK: Understanding how alcohol influences associated memories
Abstract: Many highly conserved molecular mechanisms underlying pattern formation, neuronal development and circuit formation are also important for neuronal function in the adult brain. Our work in Drosophila provides direct evidence that alcohol induces immediate changes in Notch signaling that lead to transcriptional changes in memory circuits. Intriguingly, formation of alcohol-associated memories resulted in alternative splicing of novel Notch target genes, including the Dopamine-2-receptor which is famously associated with addiction. This work reveals a highly conserved mechanism that provides a molecular basis underlying the differences between alcohol cravings and memories for natural reward.
Happy to see you all,
Galit
